At Newburgh, General Washington faced one of the greatest political threats to our fledgling republic. Due to lack of funding from Congress and worries regarding postwar payment, officers became frustrated to the point of starting a conspiracy. The conspiracy, which suggested ideas such as refusing to protect the United States or turning against it after the end of the war, endangered the unity of the nation. This program explores the causes and effects of the conspirary at theĀ historic Hasbrouck House, furnished to reflect its use as General Washington's Headquarters from April of 1782 to August of 1783.
