Sailor's Valentines were popular gifts given to a sailor’s loved ones upon returning home from a long voyage at sea. There are some that were made by the sailors themselves, but many were purchased from locals living on some of the islands the whaleships would stop at along the way, most notably the island of Barbados. Sailor's Valentines are a form of shell art, and children will be able to make their very own to take home with them. This program will take place at the Rogers Mansion and those who come will also get a tour of our newest exhibit "Hunting The Whale: The Rise and Fall of a Southampton Industry."
