Built in 1737, the oldest house in Garrison, was built by Jacob Mandeville, a young man of Dutch origin. The house was a strategic point during the American Revolution and was headquarters for commanders of the American revolution, including Gen Israel Putnam the namesake of Putnam county. Many war heroes were quartered in the house-the most notable being Gen. George Washington.The British spy Major Andre was said to be quartered at the house on his way to his trial and execution. Be sure to see the old colonial road in front of the house.
