Open Forge nights return to the Adirondack Folk School. The history of blacksmithing dates to ancient Egypt - a dagger found dating to 1350 BC is considered to be the product of a Hittite tradesman. The Iron Age occured approximately 800-500 BC and the smith can be found in classical mythology of the Roman Gods, Greeks, Phoenicians and Aztecs; courtesy of Forge magazine. You know how beautiful wrought iron decor can be and durable - have you ever considered how these items are crafted? Join Expert-smith Steve Gurzler as he demonstrates the historic art of blacksmithing on the 3rd Wednesday from May through October. There is no fee to observe - if you would like to try your hand there is a fee to forge an item at the open forge. Safety precautions apply and must be followed if you choose to make an item ~ wear hard shoes without open toes and long pants; goggles and gloves are provided. Please call for further details.
