Philipse Manor Hall presents a panoramic painting exhibit of 5 contemporary artists, Karen Gentile, Ken Gore, Patricia Melvin, Walter Lynn Mosely, and Emily Stedman October 3–27 in the gallery. Philipse Manor En Plein Air consists of on-site paintings, mixed media and drawings, made in the summer of 2018 which interpret the Philipse Manor Historic Site in contemporary times. The artists set up easels and painted directly on-site. While many painters and photographers have been associated with outdoor painting—Plein Air means paintings done on location capturing what is seen from direct observation—these painters’ contribution to the genre is singular in that it is targeted to an important historic house from pre-revolutionary American times as examined through contemporary eyes.
For these artists, their paintings tell the story of their surroundings, a record of time and place. Going beyond technical skill and technique, they capture visual truthfulness to the scenes they witness—the people, the contrast of old and new and the exciting story of the unique American history.
An Opening Reception will be held on Thursday October 4th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
