In 1926, the old Erie Canal bed through Rochester was reopened as the Rochester Subway, transporting goods and passengers from one end of the city to the other, unobstructed by city street traffic. By 1957, the right of way was turned over to the state for construction of Interstate 490. Visit the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum to see our progress restoring Rochester Subway Car 60, the sole survivor of the fleet, and tour Regional Transit Service's restored 1956 GM Transit Bus that succeeded it. Museum admission and train rides included in ticket price.
