Meet Solomon Townsend: Patriarch, mariner, merchant, and manufacturer. As Captain, he crossed the Atlantic, until the War forced him to choose sides. Sworn to the Patriotic cause by Benjamin Franklin, he would become the owner of iron forges and an anchor shop. Elected to five terms in the New York State Assembly, he was described as "a man of strong mind, excellent common sense and spotless honor - of moral bravery and resolution surpassed by no man."
