Built between 1867 and 1899, the State Capitol, a National Historic Landmark, is a stunning example of 19th century architecture, noted for intricate and elaborate carvings, and blending Renaissance, Romanesque, and French Renaissance Revival styles. It has been the seat of NYS government for more than a century and is associated with many important people and events in state and national history.
