"Niagara's History is at Oakwood". Founded in 1852 on 18 acres in the heart of what is now the City of Niagara Falls, Oakwood Cemetery is home to over 22,000 permanent residents. Included are Daredevils Annie Edson Taylor (first person to survive going over Niagara Falls in a barrel) and Capt. Matthew Webb (first person to swim the English Channel unaided). The Porter Family are in Oakwood including Maj. General Peter B. Porter, Secretary of War to John Quincy Adams. We also have several "conductors" of the Underground Rail Road. Oakwood Cemetery is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Daredevil Tours are conducted Sundays during the summer, or stop by for a map and take a self guided tour.
