Details

The Southampton Colonial Society (now doing business as the Southampton Historical Museum) was organized in 1898 and incorporated in 1910.  In its early days, the Society collected and exhibited historical objects and documents relating to the history and development of Southampton, organized pageants, and gave lectures on antiques.  The museum was once owned by Samuel Longstreth Parrish, who had purchased it from a descendent of the original owner, William Rogers and by the 1900s the property had expanded to include 12 structures including a one-room schoolhouse, a 19th century paint shop, and an 1825 barn, among others.  The museum is open YR with changing exhibits on historic topic and education programs for both schoolchildren and adults.
